PBS-MiniPRO
Combines closed operation, parallel bioprocessing, automation, and advanced process control into a high-throughput, 1 - 24 vessel bioreactor platform with our patented Vertical-Wheel® Technology.

Why MiniPRO
MiniPRO is designed for teams that need more than proof of concept. By combining automation, process control, and high-throughput experimentation in a scalable, closed bioreactor platform, MiniPRO accelerates optimization, reduces development risk, and generates data with greater manufacturing relevance.
Run 1 to 24 independent bioreactors in parallel to accelerate screening, optimization, and DoE studies. A single MiniPRO Controller Module runs up to six MiniPRO Housing units (four bioreactors per Housing unit).
Rockwell FactoryTalk® industrial automation and manufacturing software. Automate workflows using Sequencer and Recipes that respond to process changes.
Designed for rapid process development through clinical and commercial manufacturing with single-use, cGMP-ready vessels and audit-ready 21 CFR Part 11-compliant software and IQ/OQ documentation.
Independently control process conditions across each vessel for consistent process development. Closed system, perfusion-capable workflows reduces contamination risk.
The MiniPRO Vertical-Wheel Fluidix™ Vessel
The MiniPRO runs pre-sterilized, closed-system Vertical-Wheel FLUIDIX™ Vessels across up to 24 parallel bioreactors — each with their own pH and DO optical sensors, temperature control, and recipes.

The PBS Closed-System Sampling Conical supports aseptic, representative sample collection from PBS Vertical-Wheel® Bioreactors while maintaining process integrity and sample quality. The single-use assembly combines a gamma-irradiated vented conical, integrated dip tube, and weldable tubing to reduce contamination risk, handling steps, and operator variability. Compatible with stem cells, immune cells, organoids, and aggregate cultures, it supports routine in-process analyses including cell counts, viability testing, metabolite monitoring, and aggregate characterization.
This flyer describes the PBS Biotech CDMO Partner Program, which provides flexible access to PBS-3 and MiniPRO Vertical-Wheel® Bioreactor systems through lease-to-own, installment, and on-demand acquisition models. The program helps CDMOs, CMOs, and process-development organizations expand cell therapy capabilities while reducing upfront capital requirements. Participants receive training, onboarding, technical support, and commercial collaboration opportunities. Program structures, deployment options, partner tiers, and qualification pathways are designed to support manufacturing capacity…
This publication characterizes aeration, oxygen transfer, mixing, and hydrodynamics in Vertical-Wheel™ Bioreactors using experimental measurements and computational fluid dynamics. The study evaluates oxygen mass transfer coefficients, velocity distributions, energy dissipation rates, shear profiles, and fluid flow under multiple operating conditions. Predictive models describe oxygen transport and mixing performance while assessing the effects of agitation. Results demonstrate efficient mixing and oxygen distribution while maintaining hydrodynamic conditions suitable for sensitive cell…
This poster integrates high-density working cell banks with a computer-controlled parallel Vertical-Wheel® Bioreactor system for human induced pluripotent stem cell process development. Banks generated through three-dimensional expansion were thawed directly into suspension, reducing multiple adherent seed-train stages before differentiation. Post-thaw cultures maintained reproducible growth, OCT4 expression, normal karyotype, and functional pluripotency. The scale-down system provided dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide control, perfusion feeding, and manufacturing-relevant hydrodynamics.…
This poster evaluates the PBS MiniPRO as a controlled scale-down platform for human induced pluripotent stem cell process development. The system combines four 500 mL Vertical-Wheel vessels with online pH and dissolved oxygen monitoring, gas control, integrated retention filters, perfusion pumps, and closed fluid-handling connections. Experiments examined process reproducibility, direct thaw from high-density cell banks, seed train, commercial and modified media, settlement and perfusion feeding, oxygen control, aggregate morphology, and sampling methods. Controlling dissolved oxygen at 50%…
This poster evaluates the PBS MiniPRO as a controlled scale-down model for iPSC development, compared with non-controlled PBS-0.5 L Mini Perfusion vessels. All PBS-0.5 L, MiniPRO, and PBS-3 L systems used perfusion culture. Maintaining 50% dissolved oxygen from inoculation increased yield potential and physicochemical stability by avoiding oxygen limitation and fluctuations. Results were consistent across 2D-to-3D and direct-thaw seed trains and mTeSR and modified B8 media. MiniPRO and PBS-3 L cultures achieved comparable growth, aggregate size, and metabolism while maintaining perfusion…
